Dr. Richard A. Berg graduated from the State University of New York at Buffalo with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology in 1974.  He attended the University of Houston and obtained his Master's degree in 1976 and doctoral degree in Neuropsychology in 1980.  The Neuropsychology program in Houston was one of the first formal programs of its kind in the United States.  Dr. Berg received additional training in a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha at the Nebraska Psychiatric Institute. 

Dr. Berg worked for 5 years at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee studying the cognitive effects of leukemia and its treatment.  He then spent 5 years at the West Virginia University Medical Center in Charleston, West Virginia as Director of the Psychological Assessment Service.  From Charleston, he moved to Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky where he was Director of Psychology Services and consulted with the brain injury rehabilitation service.  In 1992, Dr. Berg moved to Evansville, Indiana to direct an outpatient rehabilitation program designed to help brain injured individuals return to the community and to employment.  He also was Director of Psychology services at Tri-State Rehabilitation Hospital in Evansville.  Dr. Berg has written numerous scientific articles which have been published in academic journals.  He has also authored and co-authored a number of books and book chapters

In 1994, Dr. Berg moved to Wilmington to work with colleagues at Wilmington Health Associates.  After 5 years, he left Wilmington Health to begin a private practice.  He has been in private practice since that time.

Dr. Berg is HIMS trained and, for several years, has been providing neuropsychological evaluation for pilots seeking FAA certification, exemption, and special issuance with such problems as emotional and psychiatric illness, alcohol and other substance abuse, and developmental, neurological and injury deficits.  He has provided services for a number of major and regional airlines as well as cargo carriers and emergency flight service pilots.  Evaluations for General Aviation Pilots are also available.

Dr. Berg is licensed to practice psychology in North Carolina and South Carolina.  He is listed in the National Register of  Health Service Psychologists.  Dr. Berg is a Board Certified Neuropsychologist (American Board of Professional Neuropsychology) and has served as President of the National Academy of Neuropsychology and the American Board of Professional Neuropsychology.  He has held a number of official positions in national, state and local professional organizations.
